3 Website Alternatives for Actors

I feel like there is a constant debate about websites for actors across circles on alllll social media platforms, and there are always a plethora of opinions and advice from people who are in NO WAY qualified to be giving it.

Do I think a personal website can be helpful for an actor? Yes, if done correctly.

Do I think every actor needs a full personal website? Nope.

What is the point of an actor website?

The true purpose of a website for actors is to have a home base for your personal brand that you own. Unlike social media, which you could get banned from at any time, or the platform could disappear...your website belongs to you. So creating that home base as a common link between all other marketing channels helps you maintain control over your brand and your connection to your followers. If all social media disappeared tomorrow, you’d still have a way to communicate and connect with the world.

It’s also intended to give MORE than what is on your Actors Access or Casting Networks profile…you already have those so you do not need to just recreate the same information on a prettier page on your website and call it a day. That is only one of the many different pages you need to build out on a full blown website. (You can learn how to do that in this program).

For many actors, they don’t have the time, money, or interest in creating a website the right way that will actually help their careers - and that is OKAY. But you still want to have that home base from which all your other marketing efforts connect. This is especially helpful when pitching yourself for media and collaboration opportunities.  And lucky for you, I have some options that don’t require a personal website!

Landing Pages or Virtual EPKs

While a website is a collection of multiple pages, a landing page is a singular webpage. For many actors who simply want to showcase their work and experience, this is all that’s needed. You can create a landing page off of your website, but you do not need your own domain to create one. There are many free and paid online services you can use without a custom URL. These are a great home base alternative for actors and my top suggestion if you choose to not have a full website.

  • Adobe

  • Mailchimp

  • Unbounce

  • ConvertKit

Link tree for social media profiles

You know how you can insert a link in the profile section of your social media accounts? With a link tree service, you have one link that when clicked on, houses multiple links and directives. This creates that same “home base” functionality.

PDF EPK

In the marketing and PR world, an EPK is an electronic press kit, and is typically a folder of files including a bio, photos and video clips, and more to help pitch you for an opportunity, partnership, or event appearance. You can make your own one-sheet PDF file to have on hand and to give your team.

Key elements of a landing page or virtual EPK:

No matter which option you decide to go with, your online “home base” needs to have the following elements.

  • Compelling summary

  • Career highlights/value adds

  • Special skills

  • Topics of interest to speak on
