This is a big day! Season 1 of my new podcast “It’s a Slate of Mind” has officially launched! This is a project I’ve been working diligently on for a long time now and I’m so excited to see my hard work finally become a reality. So what is “It’s a Slate of Mind”? It’s a video-podcast designed for members of the entertainment industry: actors, writers, directors, artists of all kinds. In the entertainment industry, especially in the modern days of digitizing as many aspects of our work as possible, it can feel like you’re stuck in a bubble of social media and self-taping. And I can tell you firsthand, that can get lonely and confusing! Not to mention that when we do see each other in person, it’s typically at a networking event or on set where everyone is putting their very best foot forward. It’s not every day that we find others in the industry willing to talk about the hard stuff that we all deal with, like anxiety, fear, failure, confidence, and the bullshit we all have to put up with on the regular.
I’ve found that having a good, deep conversation with a close-knit circle of trusted friends who have been there too really helps! But I know that it can sometimes be hard to find that community. So, I’m bringing my community to you in the hopes that our chats will be relatable, helpful, and make this crazy entertainment world seem just a little bit smaller. Each week my guests and I will talk about everything from the little day-to-day things we have to figure out to those big questions like “How do I keep going when I just keep hearing ‘no’?” or “How do I not lose my shit when I’m in a room full of casting directors or producers?” and “How do I let go of control in my career?”. To be honest, a lot of these conversations could easily apply to several other industries as well, so if you think you won’t relate because you’re not pursuing entertainment- think again!
To celebrate the launch of this first season, I’m sharing both episode 1 and 2 with you today! Episode 1 covers my inspiration behind creating the podcast and fills you in on my background in the entertainment industry (aka who the heck I am and why should you bother listening). I also dive in to the concept of digital isolation, the bubble that’s been created because of technology and social media and how it’s affecting the way we connect. We’ll cover what digital isolation is, how it affects us specifically in the entertainment industry (both career-wise and personally), and methods for breaking the bubble and sparking deeper, more engaging connections with others in the industry.
Episode 2 features a conversation on opinions with my friend, actress, Naddya Alicea! We chat about who to listen to, who not to listen to, how to take constructive criticism, how to draw the line between opinions and gossip, and the struggles surrounding the public feeling like they deserve a say on actor’s lives. Opinions are truly one of the core pillars of what the entertainment industry is built on. It’s also one of the aspects of this world that people get hung up on more than almost anything else. We examine the subject from all angles and share our personal experiences regarding opinions. You’re sure to relate to at least one aspect (but let’s be real, probably all of them).
