Want to immerse yourself in nature, unplug from everyday life, and experience what it’s like to live off the land? I don’t care what you think you know about Costa Rica- you’re not going to find that travel experience at any fancy 5-star resort. To get that unique and life-changing experience you have to dig a little deeper.
Dolphin Quest Costa Rica delivers this experience and more! Located near Golfito, on the southern-most point of the country next door to the Piedras Blancas National Park, this eco-adventure tourist destination can only be accessed by a 30 minute boat ride from the Golfito port.
Like its name, the Dolphin Quest area hosts many dolphins and was founded to explore the unique connection between humans and animals. Within a few minutes of my journey to the property, our little boat attracted 3-4 friendly dolphins who swam alongside us to welcome me to Dolphin Quest. As we approached the property I can vividly recall Reymundo, the owner of Dolphin Quest, commenting, “Look, it’s your welcoming party, they’re excited you’re here!”
That was by far the greatest welcome I’ve ever received. Luckily for me, Dolphin Quest only became more magical the longer I stayed. Read on for my favorite experiences in Costa Rica at Dolphin Quest:
Dolphin Quest is Family Owned and Run
One of the most special parts of Dolphin Quest Costa Rica is that it is family-owned and run. Reymundo, Reymar, and Jahza make you feel like part of their family and share with you the history and secrets of the land they’ve learned like the back of their hands. They facilitate all the activities you take part in and if you’re willing to get more involved, they’ll teach you how to fish, make coconut milk, and harvest from the fruit and vegetable gardens on property. They also know how to use the plants found on property to create teas, tinctures, and natural medicines. Truly wonderful hospitality and knowledge of Costa Rica.
Authentic Costa Rican Meals From the Land
Nearly everything you ingest while at Dolphin Quest is harvested directly from the land or sea. Coconuts, bananas, mangoes, pineapples, fresh fish, eggs, chicken, and more grace the property just a few steps away from the kitchen. You can really feel a difference in your body when you eat organic, fresh foods. After enjoying completely farm fresh meals for a week, it was really difficult adjusting back to regular American food!
Endless Activities to Explore
There are endless activities: snorkeling, scuba diving, free diving, kayaking, hiking, exploring the nearby nature preserve, horseback riding, and exploring waterfalls. Every day brings a new adventure. One of the most refreshing parts of my days at Dolphin Quest were morning yoga sessions. The property often hosts seasonal yoga instructors who lead group and private practices throughout the day in the common space.
Connect with Nature
Due to the distance from modern civilization, the jungle is alive with animal activity. During my time there we saw crocodiles, turtles, several birds, dolphins, fish, and of course the property pups! One evening we did a nature walk to catch glimpses of animals who prefer to come out at night. I felt like I was in a National Geographic magazine. There is so much lush beauty to be experienced in nature.
Taking a break from modern conveniences like high-speed wifi, computers, and the rush of city life was so good for my soul. I would often sit on the beach, grounding myself, meditating, and taking the time to appreciate the many things I’ve been given in this life. Costa Rica is the perfect destination for those looking for mental clarity, peace, and a reboot! I can’t wait to go back and visit soon.
